FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Lake Country Life Teen?
Lake Country Life Teen is a high school ministry of St. Charles dedicated to leading high school students to meet, know, love, and serve Christ through Eucharistic-centered relational ministries and forming disciples to share the Good News.
What is required to prepare for Confirmation?
Our goal is to form disciples. Our ministries do not exist to prepare students for our confirmation preparation process. Confirmation is not “graduation” from “religious education.” Rather, the Sacrament of Confirmation is for those who are ready to be Disciples of Christ and lead others closer to Him through their actions and words. Teens become disciples by progressing through our discipleship process (Meet Christ, Know Christ, Love Christ, and Serve Christ). Teens must be progressing through this process before participating in the rigorous sacramental preparation process.
What is ignite?
Ignite are gatherings 2-4 times a month for high school students following the 6:00 p.m. Mass. The nights consist usually of an activity to intro the night, a short teaching, followed by breaking into small groups to discuss the teaching and other issues the group may be struggling with. Each night concludes back in a large group setting.
What are Life Groups?
Life Groups are small groups of 10-12 high school students who meet to discuss life and faith. These groups meet twice a month on different nights of the week. Small groups allow for more in-depth conversation about faith and how it applies to our everyday lives. These groups are also encouraged to establish accountability with one another.
What is the Core Team?
The Core Team is a group of adult ministers who are passionate about leading teens closer to Christ. They are what makes our ministries successful and growing. They realize that they do not have all the answers to all the questions, but that we are all on a journey and they want to help guide teens in this journey. All of our Core Team members have participated in the Safeguarding All of God’s Family Program and undergo a background check every five years.
Can a parent lead their child's small group
Becoming a small group leader is a fun and exciting way to stay engaged with your own confirmation candidate. We absolutely encourage parents to become small group leaders—and, with our rapidly expanding student ranks, we need you—but we do not permit parents to lead their own children's small group. Some students need more space than others and are far more likely to be candid in small group discussions when parents are not present. We’ll help find the best fit for you, as well as the right place to maximize your student’s experience in the discipleship process.
What are Host Families?
In order to provide a warm atmosphere for our life groups and confirmation small groups, we are looking for some families willing to host a life group and their Core Team member in their home. The Core Team member will run the night; the host family provides a welcoming space for the group to meet, has a DVD player and a TV. You can alternate dates with one other family. If interested in being a host family, please check the box on the registration form. All adults (18+) living in the household must be (or become) safe environment trained. Thank you in advance for your support!
What is an XLT?
XLT is short for exalt, and is a night of adoration and worship. Each night has a powerful and challenging witness talk, praise & worship music, and an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There are four (4) XLTs this year. We strongly recommend teens (and parents) attend as many of these nights as possible, especially during Advent and Lent!
What are these Retreats all about?
Retreats are the cornerstone of our Life Teen program because they provide an environment for students to get away from the many distractions in their lives and focus on their faith and relationship with God. We offer a number of different retreats during the year that are open to all high school students such as: Encounter Retreats, Devil’s Lake Retreat, Winter Excursion, the Wisconsin Catholic Youth Rally, March for Life, and Catholic Youth Expeditions.
What is the Advisory Board?
Our advisory board is made up of former students, adults, parents, and Core Team members who meet monthly to help guide and grow our programs. They provide invaluable advice and support to our student ministers while also supporting our Student IMPACT Leadership Team in carrying out different social and service events for their peers.
What is the Student IMPACT Leadership Team?
The Student IMPACT Leadership Team is a leadership team for high school students who Serve Christ by helping to form more disciples. This group works alongside the Core Team in planning and running our different ministries like: EDGE Middle School Ministry, IGNITE, Life Groups, Retreats, Mission Trips etc.
What else is available to my student?
We offer a number of different service and social events, summer mission trips, and camp. We have small groups for high school students to get involved in to further grow in their faith, as well as mentoring and leadership opportunities available to interested teens. Please continue to check our website and newsletters, or contact us, for more information.
